I just listened to our local sports station interviewing Brian Billick this morning. I really believe he would be an excellent candidate. The guy knows what he is talking about and has significant experience. He might have a big Ego, but so what? This team could benefit from this guy's knowledge. Thoughts? Crickets.....crickets..... New coaching staff and draftScore: 101January 3, 2012 10:30 am
Now that Raheem and his staff are gone, what direction should we go in? Personally, I would prefer Jeff Fisher because of his experience and overall good record. He would establish a professional atmosphere. On offense, I would prefer that we run a similar style to the Packers and Patriots, where the QB has multiple options available to him. I think we need to tweak our Offensive line (primarily Right Tackle), add a speed WR (preferably through free agency, but if Blackmon is available, I am good with that too). We absoultely need a RB to tandem with Blount. If Trent Richardson is available, get him. If not, bring in an all around back through free agency or get LaMichael James in the second round (if he is there). On defense, bring in a DC with experience. I would be okay with moving to a 3-4 if it makes sense. Just my thoughts. Any other Buc Fans out there?????? Go Bucs! Category: NFL Tags: Tampa Bay Buccaneers
change defense to 3-4Score: 86December 29, 2011 3:36 pm
"I think we have all the pieces in place for a 3-4 defense," the player said. "McCoy and Clayborn can play end, Price at nose, Bowers and Bennett outside, with Foster and Quincy inside." The top defenses in the NFL like the 49ers, Ravens, Steelers, and Jets all run the 3-4 defense to perfection. For those who think a transition to a 3-4 defense is too difficult to endure, the Texans would beg to differ. The Texans went from the 30th ranked defense and one of the worst pass defenses in NFL history a year ago to one of the top and most feared defenses in the NFL this year. He is much more effective rushing the passer. Category: NFL Tags: Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Freeman and Rah being booed out of town!Score: 70December 14, 2011 9:14 pm
http://www.cbssports.com/mcc/messag es/chrono/33870231/0/0/33871556#ID3 3871556 In true "Not For Long" (NFL) fashion Tampa Bay Buccaneers fans have been asking for Coach of the Year runner up Raheem Morris' head and questioning whether or not Josh Freeman truly is the "Franchise Quarterback" he has been labeled. It starts with the local media, who are publishing newspaper articles asking if 3rd year QB Freeman is really the face of the franchise. Has the Buccaneers' front office made a mistake in identifying Free as the future? It goes to show how fickle the NFL can be, that less than one year after willing his team to 10 wins Raheem Morris' is answering questions about whether or not he is on the hot seat. He finished second to Bill Belichick for the Coach of the Year award in 2010 after gaining notoriety for claiming his 3-13 team would accomplish 10 wins. Sure enough, the second youngest team in the NFL, finished strong in the "Race to Ten", but missed the playoffs to eventual Super Bowl Champion Green Bay Packers. That 2010 Buccaneers team was led by second year QB, Josh Freeman, who had a remarkable turnaround. After taking over the reigns mid-season in his rookie year, Freeman finished 3-6 with 10 touchdowns and 18 interceptions. Not exactly a model season for a first round draft pick, but he was at the helm to start the 2010 season, his first as a full time starter. He came through, leading the Buccaneers to their 10-6 record behind marked improvement. Of Bucs QBs with more than 450 attempts in a season, Freeman's 61% completion percentage ranks 3rd. His 3,451 yards in a season ranks 4th in team history, his 25 tds are second only to Brad Johnson's 26 in 03, His 10 wins tied for most in team history, His 5.3 TD% last year ranks highest in team history. His rating was better than ANY OTHER QB in team history with 16 starts in a season. Apparently, Bucs fans seem to have forgotten the past history of Buccaneers' QBs. They have forgotten that Doug Williams, Vinny Testaverde (did you know he was top ten in most major passing categories?), and Steve Young once played for the franchise and were sent packing. They have forgotten that even Trent Dilfer, another former Buccaneer went on to win a Super Bowl....with a different team. After less than three seasons, impatient fair-weather, band-wagoning Buccaneers fans are trying to push out (potentially) the best Offensive Buc to ever put on a uniform. Lest we forget history. Well, looking at Freeman's third year, one could at least begin to understand the fans frustrations. After all, this season mirrors his rookie year. Twelve passing touchdowns. Eighteen interceptions. His last game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Freeman accounted for nearly half of the Buccaneers 7 turnovers. You know how many interceptions Ben Roethlisberger had in his 3rd year? I chose to begin with him, because Josh Freeman is most often compared to Big Ben. Yes, ole Big Ben regressed from his second year and had 23 INTs, with just 18 TDs. Brett Favre led the league in INTs in his 3rd year. Warren Moon? 13 Tds and 26 Ints in his 3rd year. Jim Kelly, 15 tds and 17 Ints in his 3rd season. Big names I'm throwing out right? Only Roethlisberger had a better SECOND year than Free. And don't even get me started on the 4th quarter comebacks. Josh Freeman now holds 9 fourth quarter comebacks in less than 3 seasons. Can you believe that some Bucs fans are actually saying that the likes of Ryan Mallet, Jake Locker, Andy Dalton, YATES, Gabbert, and Ponder are better than Freeman? "Mallett, Locker, Dalton, Yates, Gabbert, and Ponder." Really? Really ?? You'd take any of these over Josh Freeman? Yates??? Really?? Lemme see free with AJ Green. Let me see Free with a running game. Let me see Free in two more years when the rest of the offense is out of their "sophomore" and "junior" years of NFL play. You'd be hard pressed to find many QBs with better numbers than Free at his age. If you eliminate Free's interceptions, we're talking a whole different ballgame. Matt Ryan, Joe Flacco, Jay Cutler, Eli Manning, Carson Palmer, Mike Vick, Drew Brees, Tom Brady, Donovan MCNabb, in their second years? Not better than Freeman's. Peyton Manning? Okay, he had better numbers, but not a better rating. I agree with many that Freeman is throwing too many picks and forcing a lot more passes, but let's flip this for a second and take a look at completions and touchdowns taken away due to penalties, stalled drives due to penalties, and the big kicker of them all - surefire touchdowns that were dropped by receivers. These mistakes have cost Freeman heavily in the stat columns. I think a lot of it we can chalk up to pure BAD LUCK. Donald Penn gives up a sack inside the 5 yard line that leads to the fumble and the Jags get that recovery TD. How often does Penn give up sacks like that?? It's never a good thing when your offensive line is the most veteran group of the entire team. You know why Raheem Morris' name is in all of this? Because he drafted Freeman. Because he blabbed his mouth about 10 wins and his team actually believed in it. As a matter of fact, fans are calling this year a regression, and rightfully so. They are not seeing any growth from the young Buccaneers. They are watching their 'franchise QB' regress. All of this based on last year's success. Those darn over-achievers! Had Morris improved just a few wins, maybe from 3-13 to a 4-12, this year's team wouldn't look so bad. Maybe if Freeman hadn't done so well, Raheem would be extended two more years to make this young teams potential a reality. Or maybe...jussssst maybe....the fans started showing up to NFL games, the NFL wouldn't have to black out the televised games. Maybe then these fans could actually watch the product, see the play. They would have more informed opinions, rather than listening to mic jockeys blast the team. Or read pencil pushers evaluations of the team. Maybe they wouldn't need Sportscenter to update them on their team's play. Hey, Bill Cowher or even Jon Gruden could come back over to the Tampa Bay Area and improve this team instantly. Why... if they went 10-6 with RAHEEM, surely they'd go UNDEFEATED with these coaches. Better yet, let's just release Freeman or make some moves to get the first pick and take Luck out of Stanford. Yeahhhhh, we wouldn't have to wait 2 or 3 more years for HIM to develop. Nope, why, he'd win right out of the gates. Allllllll of the great QBs do. Allllllllllll of the great coaches do!
